Meet the artist . . .

Anne Stine is an artist in the Washington DC metropolitan area, creating luminous, nature‑inspired encaustic paintings that bring a sense of calm, depth, and refinement into a space. Her multi‑layered surfaces echo the quiet geometry, shifting palette, and organic textures found in forests, waterways, and hidden ecosystems. Known for vivid color, sculptural texture, and a luminous depth unique to encaustic, her work blends abstraction and observation to offer collectors timeless, one‑of‑a‑kind pieces that evoke memory and transform the atmosphere of a interior space.

Current Work

Anne is developing a new abstract series inspired by the flora and fauna found in the forest. This body of work continues her exploration of themes like community, resilience and the layered, shifting nature of memory. The new series also reflects her ongoing commitment to sustainability, using eco-friendly materials whenever possible to honor the environments that inspire her.  Collectors interested in early access to new pieces are invited to join her newsletter to receive announcements of new releases. Artistic Approach

Stine’s practice centers on large-format, contemporary, encaustic mixed media paintings built using richly layered surfaces that echo the natural world. Over time, her work has evolved from representational landscapes into more conceptual abstract art, reflecting her interest in memory, mystery, and the emotional resonance of place. Her paintings appeal to collectors, designers, and curators seeking textured, luminous, nature‑inspired contemporary art for their spaces.

What is encaustic?

Encaustic paint is a unique and ancient medium made from a blend of molten beeswax, damar resin, and pigments. Applied in layers while warm, each layer is fused with a blowtorch, creating rich textures and luminous surfaces. This versatile medium allows for vibrant colors, depth, and a tactile quality that invites exploration.

In her work, Anne often incorporates mixed media as a foundational base or to add intricate details. Using materials like ink, pastels, mineral paint, and wax pencil, she creates layered compositions that bring extra texture and dimension to the encaustic surface.

“I find Anne Stine’s work addictive because it transports me
to those times and places that have meant the most to me in my life.”
